If you’re making your own smoothie recipe from scratch, stick tothis ratio for smoothie magic, regardless of the ingredients:

Green Smoothie Rule of Thumb: 1.5Cups Greens + 1Cup Liquid + .5Cup Fruit + Accoutrements (nuts, seeds, protein powder).

Green Smoothie Making Tips:

Making green smoothie is extremely easy.

For the most part it’s pretty self explanatory, however I’ve found a few tips that’ve helped me toward smoothie perfection over the years:

1. Buy organic greens in bulk.

I usually buy my organic greens from Costco in large bulk bags. They have mixed bags of spinach, kale and chard that I love.

For more unique greens like dandelion greens or beet greens, you’ll need to buy these separately.

Regardless of the greens you use in your smoothie, they can be mixed and matched according to what you have ready to use! I personally try to add a variety to take advantage of as many nutrients as possible!

2. Freeze your greens.

Especially if you buy in bulk, or purchase a wide arrayof greens to use, it helps to clean then toss in baggies and into your freezer.

Freezing them is a way to cool down your smoothie without having to water it down with ice cubes!

3. Freeze your bananas.

This may be obvious to some, but before you freeze your bananas, PEEL THEM! I learned this the hard way.

4. Purchase frozen berries.

Again, this helps to cool down the smoothie without water it down with ice.

Plus it allows you to take advantage of delicious berries year round!

5. Peel ginger with a spoon.

Instead of trying to peel ginger with a knife, try peeling it with the back of a spoon! It will slide right off.

6. Soak your chia seeds before adding.

Make sure to soak chia seeds before consuming them.

You can add them to your blender and blend with the other ingredients, or add them to your smoothie after it’s been blended.

I typically add them after because I love the texture they add.

7. High speed blender.

You don’t NEED to have a high speed blender, but I am telling you, you’ll taste the difference.

I used to use an stick blender before I purchased my Blendtec, and yes it worked, however it was like slurping down a finely chopped salad in a straw.

My Blendtec changed my life. Fresh, fast and super smooth smoothies every morning!
